Offshore Operations

Client Situation

In 2022, a private operator in the Gulf of Mexico was facing repeated well integrity issues during cementing operations in a mature offshore field. Standard cement blends were failing under highsalinity and high-temperature conditions (160°C, 12,000 psi), leading to micro-annuli formation, poor zonal isolation, and gas migration risks. The consequences were significant: up to 10 days of non-productive time (NPT) per well and costs exceeding USD 1.5 million annually in remedial cementing.

Intervention

BJ Tech Energy emphasized that success relied on both advanced technology and close collaboration with the client. Together, we implemented a structured approach:

Lab Innovation: Tailored slurry with retarders, fluid-loss additives,  salt-resistant extenders.Compressive strength: >3,000 psi (24 h), >4,500 psi

(48 h)
Fluid loss: <50 mL/30 min
Density: 14.2–16.0 ppg
Rheology: 40–50 sec/qt at 120 °F
Onsite Execution: Real-time monitoring software with sensors
and gauges.
Pump rates: 2–5 bbl/min
Slurry density: 14.5–15.5 ppg
Displacement: 2,500 bbl drilling fluid
Team Integration: Engineers worked directly with client team.
Safety meetings: 3
Monitoring: 24/7 for 72 h
Documentation: 100% operations

Team Integration (Integrity & Collaboration):
BJ Tech engineers collaborated directly with the client’s drilling
team:
Conducted 3 pre-job safety meetings
Monitored operations 24/7 across 72 hours of cementing
Documented 100% of operations for transparency and QA
purposes

Results Achieved

Zero cementing failures across 6 wells

No remedial squeeze jobs, saving ~USD 250,000 per well

35% NPT reduction, ~USD 4.5 million saved

Zero safety incidents, reinforcing BJ Tech’s reputation

Strategic Outcome

The project transformed a single engagement into a long-term partnership covering 20+ offshore wells, positioning BJ Tech Energy as a trusted, innovative, and safety-driven strategic partner.
